  • 34 lb beef brisket
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional for heat)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp beef drippings (from slow cooker or roasting pan)

Instructions

  1. 1. Season the brisket with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder if desired.
  2. 2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the seasoned brisket on all sides until browned.
  3. 3. In a bowl, mix together barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar.
  4. 4. Place sliced onions and minced garlic in a slow cooker. Lay the seared brisket on top and pour over the prepared sauce along with beef broth.
  5. 5. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or high for 4-5 hours until tender.
  6. 6. Shred the brisket using two forks and mix in some brown sugar and drippings from the pot before serving.
