  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup green onions, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by whisking warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until foamy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Mix in the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl and cover; let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  6. Prepare the garlic butter mixture by combining melted butter with garlic, salt, black pepper, optional oregano, chili flakes, and green onions.
  7. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle (12×8 inches) and spread garlic butter mixture evenly over it.
  8. Roll tightly into a log and place seam-side down in a greased loaf pan; let rise again for about 20 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), brush top with extra garlic butter, then bake for 28-32 minutes until golden brown.
